TEA Responds to U.S. Department of Education About 8.5% Cap on Special Ed

What DRTx Has to Say About It, and What We Plan to Do Next

Monday, November 7, 4:15 to 4:30 p.m.

On Oct. 3, the U.S. Department of Education (US DOE) gave the Texas Education Agency (TEA) one month to either provide evidence that Texas children were not being denied special education services or outline a plan to end the 8.5 percent limit on special education enrollment.

(For more background on this issue, read “Denied” by Brian Rosenthal, investigative reporter for the Houston Chronicle.)

TEA responded to the US DOE’s demand on Nov. 2. DRTx is disappointed in TEA’s response, to say the least. Click here to read our brief statement released to the media earlier this week.

Join us for an overview of TEA’s response to the US DOE and a full statement from DRTx on Monday, Nov. 7, from 4:15 to 4:30 p.m. during our Facebook Live Event.

At the time of the event, please go to our main Facebook page at and wait for the live video to begin. If it does not begin within a few seconds, refresh your browser and scroll down until you see the live video.

(If you are unable to join us live, the video will be posted on our Facebook page immediately following the event. We will also post it a few days later on our YouTube channel.)
